It's hard to believe it's almost the end of the year.  But don't quit just yet!  We still have some exciting things going on, like;
  • May 15th - We go to a Project Wet Symposium.  We have been working hard on our presentations about everything we've learned about water conservation and riparian areas.
  • We just completed a pilot program for SRP about Global Climate Change.  We made posters of our own action plans to help with the problem and sent them to SRP.
  • Now we are building solar ovens to cook and bake with the sun.  Our plan is to sell solar baked brownies and raise money to buy solar ovens to send to an orphanage in Uganda.
  • Of course we are practicing our integers and algebra in preparation for 7th grade.
Have a fun and SAFE summer.  I hope to see you next year.

Happy Easter

I can't believe it's April!  The year is flying by, BUT, it's not over yet.  We still have a lot to cover.

The big news this month is AIMS, April 16-20. Here are some tips to help you get prepared...
  • Study your Buckle Down Books-they have all the directions for all the math concepts that will be on AIMS.
  • If you don't understand a concept come in and ask me.  I am in the room before school and at lunch.  I will also stay after school if you ask me the day before.
  • Get plenty of rest, especially the night before and all through AIMS week.
  • Get some exercise, it calms the gitters, gets the brain working, and it's fun.
  • Take your time on the test, work carefully and DON'T rush!
  • Go back and check your work!  How many times have you found silly mistakes when we go over our math?  Don't leave silly mistakes on the AIMS, you can't change them later.
  • Relax, if you follow these steps you'll do fine.

Hassayampa River Preserve

6th grade has worked hard planning our scientific investigations for the Hassayampa River Preserve field trip on March 9th.  We will be testing the water in the lake and river, investigating and identifying animal tracks and scat, and identifying various trees in the area.  How exciting!

We were treated to a concert by the Phoenix Symphany on March 8th.  It was awesome!

Spring Break-March 19-23 Hope everyone has a nice relaxing break. We are all looking forward to it.

Happy 100th Birthday Arizona

February 14th is Arizona's 100th birthday.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARIZONA

To celebrate all of the classes at Liberty will be baking brownies in solar ovens.  Imagine that, cooking and baking with the sun!  It's free and readily available, especially in Arizona.

All of the solar ovens used at the school will go to a village in Uganda. The 6th grade will also be making our own solar ovens and baking brownies to sell after the centenial.  We are trying to raise money to buy more solar ovens to send to Uganda.  There is a great need for this type of technology in places like Uganda because...
  • they cook almost exclusively with wood which is being rapidly depleted
  • the children  (who have to gather the wood) are in real danger doing so
  • the fires cause respitory and other health problems
  • it is good for the environment
  • it is safe and economical
  • people can use the money they would normally spend on fuel for food.
Hope you support our efforts by buying a brownie when we begin selling them at the end of this month or the beginning of March.

Happy New Year

Welcome back everyone.  Hope your break was wonderful and relaxing becuse 6th grade has alot going on this month.

Report cards go home Jan 13th.

We are starting a new unit on angles in math.  Protractors really are fun!

6th grade is working hard learning about the different forms of energy.  Soon we will be making solar ovens and baking brownies to sell at school.  We are hoping to raise money to buy solar ovens and pots to send to an orphanage in Uganda.

We are also writing thank you letters to the scientist from The Nature Conservancy that came and did a presentation for us.

We are looking forward to a new year of fun and learning.
