To celebrate all of the classes at Liberty will be baking brownies in solar ovens. Imagine that, cooking and baking with the sun! It's free and readily available, especially in Arizona.
All of the solar ovens used at the school will go to a village in Uganda. The 6th grade will also be making our own solar ovens and baking brownies to sell after the centenial. We are trying to raise money to buy more solar ovens to send to Uganda. There is a great need for this type of technology in places like Uganda because...
- they cook almost exclusively with wood which is being rapidly depleted
- the children (who have to gather the wood) are in real danger doing so
- the fires cause respitory and other health problems
- it is good for the environment
- it is safe and economical
- people can use the money they would normally spend on fuel for food.
